More than 40 volunteers participated in the drywall construction workshop, which took place on Saturday, September 30th, as part of the “It’ not too late” project, held on the path that leads to the canyon of the River Bijela.
Climbers, mountaineers and local eco-activists thus helped the artist Dodd Holsapple, who has been staying in Lončari for a month, to create the art installation “See glass again”.
The construction of the wall with the help of drywall construction techniques was supervised and expertly led by Miran Križanić from the Dragodid Association, and it is one of the last stages of the creation of an art installation that will finally be completed and presented on the weekend 6. of October 6th and 7th.
In just one day, the volunteers managed to build a nine-meter structure that will serve as a socialize place for visitors to the River Bijela.
By using the stone discarded during the selection of commercial stone from Benkovac, this workshop also wanted to point out the huge problem created by the lunar landscape, where cafes become locations for throwing and disposing of slaughterhouse, construction and communal waste by unscrupulous citizens.
After the previous eco-cleaning actions, in which the entrance to the canyon was relieved of 120 cubic meters of various waste and loose glass, the work on cleaning the landscape of the River Bijela does not stop. Next weekend (October 6th and 7th) another action will be held, which will additionally arrange the environment around the installation.
The workshop is part of the project „#itIsNotTooLate – Seagrass beds: Zostera marina, Zostera noltei and Cymodocea nodosa, their significance for fish life and the overall ecosystem of the three seas area“, as part of campaign at the end of June 2022 also held to clean up the River Zrmanja.
The action is part of a project approved through the Three Seas FLAG competition for the selection of the Measure 2.1 project. support for the valuation, protection and promotion of the natural resource base – rivers, seas and coasts within the implementation of the Local Development Strategy in fisheries FLAG Three Seas for the period 2014-2020.
